The Rifles was formed in 2007 from 4 pre-existing regiments and 14 antecedent regiments all of which have their own museum or collections. The Rifles now seek to develop their own Collection to show their own history and genesis of the regiment’s characteristics, traditions and achievements. The job will be based at The Rifles Regimental Headquarters in Winchester but will require some travel throughout England across The Rifles Heritage Network.
Collection Concept
Currently there is a small physical collection of objects and documents and a large digital archive, much of it associated with operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, much of which is held in Winchester. It is necessary that all this be catalogued and made accessible, with safeguards, to us and visitors to Winchester, to the associated Museums of The Rifles and through our website(s). Additionally the core display in Winchester is to be developed and thematic displays produced encompassing the wider heritage of The Rifles which can be exhibited throughout the wider Regimental footprint of our traditional County areas and battalion locations.
