I am a former Rifles officer and in June I took part the Hadrian’s Wall Run, a 69 mile ultra-marathon over 2 days. I did this in aid of Care for Casualties which provides support for wounded soldiers from the Rifles. My aim is to raise as much money as possible to help them continue their vital support to the bereaved, the injured and their families.
Since 2007 The Rifles have had 61 killed in action and over 300 seriously injured. They have 29 amputees, three of whom have each lost three limbs. Two other casualties are completely blind and many veterans, more than 40 have sustained life changing physical injuries, which will require long term assistance.
Many of you were kind enough to donate when I run last year for Combat Stress – but any contribution would be gratefully received for this important and worthwhile cause.
Examples of help provided recently by Care for Casualties:-
·Adapting houses by door widening, installing ramps, wet rooms, stair lifts etc.
·Paying for education, retraining and re-skilling, including support for soldiers undertaking MAs, attending college and completing diploma courses.
·Modifying cars for disabled drivers and paying for driving lessons for dependents.
·Marriage counselling for a soldier, who is a double amputee, and his wife. Counselling for sisters of a rifleman killed in action.
·Help with mortgage costs of the father of a rifleman who sustained 70%burns. The father lost his income as a self-employed HGV driver as he sat for 4 months by his son’s bedside.
