E-BUGLE 018 - RIFLES BIKE RIDE REGISTRATION BEGINS - WHY THE POPPIES - OMEGA JOBS UPDATE
THE RIFLES WORLD WAR ONE COMMEMORATIVE BIKE RIDE 10 - 15 SEPT 2014 - REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
To commemorate the outbreak of the World War I in 1914, The Rifles intend to carry out a fund raising Battlefield Bike Ride in Northern France and Belgium between the 10th-15th September 2014.
The event will bring together all branches of the Regimental family with participation from our bereaved families, our wounded Riflemen, Regular and Reserve Riflemen, veterans and our other supporters, raising funds for Care for Casualties.
The event will honour each of our forming Regiments with the laying of a wreath each day at the site of a significant action. Short lectures will be arranged at these sites but there will also be time for participants to visit other areas of interest along the route. The final evening will be spent in Ypres which will allow us to attend the daily Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. This will be followed by a final dinner for all participants and support staff.
The cost to individuals will be £525 with a non refundable deposit of £200 payable on registration, followed by the balance of £325 to be paid by 1 June 2014. This will cover half board accommodation, return ferry crossing, route map, snacks breaks and medical and mechanical support. Participants will need to arrange their own insurance and pay for their own midday meal.
On registration participants will commit themselves to raising a minimum of £750 for Care for Casualties. A number of places will be allocated to our injured Riflemen.
Care for Casualties has engaged Green Jersey Cycling Tours www.greenjerseycycling.co.uk to provide the organisational and logistical support to the ride.
