Training & Development Manager

Any of the DMWS locations

The Training and Development Manager (TDM) reports to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for the Training and Development requirements of DMWS and its wider interests. This is a key role in the DMWS Team, with a broad portfolio of both corporate delivery and support functions, ensuring the safe provision of relevant training requirements and qualifications for DMWS customers and staff. The TDM will be responsible for increasing the level of relevant skills and knowledge within the DMWS workforce through provision of training and learning support to all DMWS employees.

This is a fixed term contract for 1 year with a potential for the post to become permanent. This position will require an organised yet innovative approach to training and development. The focus will be on specific welfare training and induction for staff, leading to an accredited welfare qualification. However, there is an opportunity to develop the role to include wider welfare issues.

Applicants should be responsible and flexible with a mature attitude. Successful candidates will have excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, written skills and a strong commitment to welfare provision and must be able to demonstrate extensive experience within the training and education sector. Proven welfare experience in a voluntary or professional capacity is desirable and an understanding of military life would be beneficial.

The funding for this post has been provided by the third sector and their requirements are specific. The candidate must be a veteran who has been wounded, injured or sick since 2001.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in training provision with strong training programming skills and will be a compassionate person who cares about people. The candidate must be flexible and be available to visit any of our locations worldwide. We require a doer, a person who can get on with the role with minimum supervision and identify the training needs of the DMWS and then provide solutions. Welfare officers

Any of the DMWS locations

Welfare Officers are being recruited to join existing staff in providing 24-hour welfare support to military personnel, their families and entitled civilians in hospitals in UK, Northern Ireland, Germany and Cyprus. The work includes regular out of hours attendance and weekend work on a rota basis.

Applicants must also be prepared to move to different locations within the organization including areas of conflict, either scheduled or at short notice. Central tenets to employment with DMWS are that all our Welfare Officers must be mobile (available to be posted to any of our locations) and deployable (which will include postings to areas of conflict, such as Afghanistan).

Applicants should be fit, responsible and flexible with a mature attitude. Successful candidates will have excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, written skills and a strong commitment to welfare provision. A recognized national and accredited health, welfare or social care qualification is essential, as is a full driving license. Proven welfare experience in a voluntary or professional capacity is desirable and an understanding of military life would be beneficial.

 

The ideal candidate will be experienced in welfare provision with strong communication skills and will be a compassionate person who cares about people. The candidate must be flexible and be available to be posted to any of our locations worldwide. We require a doer, a person who can get on with the role with minimum supervision and can stand in for their senior welfare officer on occasion. A proactive response to the DMWS situation is required as well as first class communication skills, both written and oral are essential.

In particular the following attributes are required:

·        Recognised and accredited qualification in healthcare, welfare or social care (e.g. Nurse or Occupational Therapist).

·        Minimum NVQ Level III or equivalent experience in a welfare role.

·        Evidence of a successful track record of achieving results in experience of working in a health care or welfare environment.

·        Counselling skills.

·        Presentation skills.

·        Proven IT skills including Microsoft Office suite.

·        Knowledge of key current issues within the MOD.

·        Appropriate written communication skills.

·        Self-motivated.

·        Team player.
