US Wounded Servicemen Join British Service Amputees for Soldier Ride UK Challenge

A group of 30 Amputees from the US and UK will join forces to conquer the Soldier Ride UK Challenge from Saturday, 6th to Thursday, 11th  October 2012.  The group consists of serving and veteran disabled men and women, who will challenge themselves to complete the 250 mile cycling trek to raise awareness of the challenges they face after injury.

Despite suffering life-changing injuries in the line of duty, the riders will depart from Sandringham Estate, to follow the Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex coast all the way to the finish line in London on Thursday 11th   October.    Riders  will  use  modified  bikes,  hand  cycles  and  standard road bikes, depending on their needs (see attached photographs) and the 30+ strong group of injured servicemen and women cycling together will be an awesome sight to behold.

Soldier Ride, now in its 2nd year, is the UK version of the highly successful Soldier Ride series in the US, organised by the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and supported by President Obama.  In the UK, it is a collaborative effort between ABF The Soldiers’ Charity  –  the  national  charity  of  the British Army, BLESMA  –  The  Limbless Veterans, and the Wounded Warrior Project.  Between them, the three charities provide support and rehabilitation to serving and veteran service personnel, both injured and disabled, and their families on both sides of the Atlantic.
